Phantom of the Paradise
Phantom of the Paradise is a campy cult classic film directed by Brian De Palma, a narrative that follows composer Winslow Leach as his Faust-inspired cantata is stolen by Death Record label owner Swan as an opener for his own "Xanadu". This film has been a favorite of mine since I first watched it six years ago, but I have since then gained more appreciation for the little details in every rewatch. Winslow Leach uses a retelling of Faust, which Swan ironically steals to retell in a digestible manner. Swan's transformation of culture into kitsch tells a tragic tale of the music industry as a whole regarding the treatment of art as a commodity.

Illustrators/Painters

Mizumori Ado
Mizumori's art encapsulates happy and charming moments, often depicting girls and cute animals. The simple decorative flourishes are my favorite aspect of her art. She also sings one of the songs featured on Katamari Damacy, Gin & Tonic & Red Red Roses.
Aquirax Uno
I love Uno Akira's linework and dreamy scapes. I first found his work Ringo Sheena's project with Nakata Yasutaka, and have found inspiration in his work since.
Kim Jiyoon
Her watercolor work on the Misty Blue albums evoke the same emotions that the songs do. My favorite album work of her's is 3/4 Sentimental Steady Seller - 가을의 용기
